Fig Smoothie Bowl
The Freshest, Most Colorful, and Most Nutritious Summer Breakfast
With the heat, what we crave most are fresh, light, and colorful preparations that brighten our mornings without needing to turn on the stove. That’s where the magic of summer “kitchen-therapy” comes in: preparing something beautiful, delicious, and nutritious in a matter of minutes.
The smoothie bowl format has become the undisputed king of summer breakfasts and snacks. The secret to its success? Its incredible versatility. Unlike a conventional smoothie to drink with a straw, the bowl is eaten with a spoon, allowing you to play with textures and crunchy toppings that transform each bite into a different experience.
At this time of year, the true stars of our garden are figs and early figs (brevas). Although we often confuse them, brevas are the first fruits the fig tree produces at the beginning of summer (larger and less sweet), while figs arrive towards the end of the season with their characteristic honeyed and concentrated pulp. Both are small gastronomic gems that bring an incomparable natural sweetness to this recipe.
A Boost of Nutrients in Every Spoonful
Besides being delicious, this smoothie bowl is a perfect ally for taking care of your health thanks to the combination of its ingredients:
- Fresh Figs / Early Figs (Brevas): Stand out for their high fiber content, promoting digestion. They are rich in minerals like potassium, calcium, and magnesium, in addition to providing quick natural energy to start the day.
- Banana (frozen): It’s the key to achieving that creamy, almost ice cream-like texture. It provides potassium and slow-release sugars.
- Greek Yogurt: Adds high biological value proteins and probiotics that take care of your intestinal flora, also providing an irresistible creaminess.
- Chia Seeds: A superfood packed with Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and soluble fiber.
Precise Cutting Without Turning on the Stove
For this recipe, we don’t need frying pans, pots, or to turn on the burners. It’s time to give the cooking utensils a rest and rely on the essential preparation basics:
- Vitrinor Cutting Board: The perfect base for working firmly, keeping the kitchen spotless, and handling fruits with ease.
- Sharp kitchen knife: Essential for achieving clean cuts in a fruit as delicate as a fig, creating perfect slices for a picture-perfect presentation.
Servings: 1 – 2 people
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Difficulty: Very easy
You will need:
For the smoothie base:
- 6 fresh figs (or early figs if in season)
- 1 frozen banana (sliced)
- 150 g natural Greek yogurt
- 100 ml milk (or your preferred plant-based drink)
- 1 tablespoon honey (optional, if you like a sweeter touch)
For decoration (Toppings):
- 2 fresh figs, sliced
- ½ banana, sliced
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
Step by step
- Prepare the fruit: Wash the fresh figs thoroughly with cold water and dry them carefully. Place them on your cutting board and remove the stems. Reserve two of the figs for the final decoration.
- Blend the base: Place the remaining 6 figs, the previously frozen banana, Greek yogurt, milk, and the tablespoon of honey into the blender cup.
- Achieve the perfect texture: Blend at maximum power for a couple of minutes until you get a thick, smooth, and completely homogeneous cream.
- Plate: Pour the mixture into your favorite bowl. Since it contains frozen banana, you’ll notice it has a dense consistency, perfect for holding the surface ingredients.
- Decorate and serve: Gently place the slices of the two reserved figs and the half-sliced banana on top of the cream, then sprinkle with chia seeds. Serve immediately to enjoy all its freshness!
Suggestions and Creative Variations
- 100% Vegan Version: Substitute Greek yogurt with coconut or soy yogurt, use plant-based milk (almond milk pairs wonderfully with figs), and swap honey for agave or date syrup.
- Crunchy Touch: Add a handful of homemade granola, chopped pistachios, or dried coconut flakes for a crunchy contrast.
- An extra boost of energy: Add a teaspoon of peanut or almond butter to the blender before blending; you’ll get an irresistible toasted flavor and an even more satisfying dish.
Go ahead and prepare this smoothie bowl at home, make the most of seasonal fruit, and enjoy a healthy breakfast that first catches the eye and is savored with every spoonful.
